I've agreed to participate in a new program by Thomas Nelson Publishers called the Blog Bunch. Here's the logo I'm supposed to put on my blog--if I just knew how to post it in the sidebar!

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Romans 12:1 NIV
Ted will be done with his police training next week and is looking forward to being an officer
Carolyn's home was broken into on Friday and she ended up in the ICU
There have been many robberies in the area, many in daylight hours, so the community should be alert for signs of suspicious behavior
Gizzie will be attending her son's wedding and dealing with extra stress with the family situation and ex-husband
Nate is under a lot of stress at school with mid-terms and other responsibilities
Joes is having severe vertigo, and unable to drive. He's worried about its effect on his studies and with his job
Oh, Lord you know our needs and our desires. Meet our needs as you have promised and guide us to follow your perfect plan for us. Amen.

May 9, 2011
It's been way too long since I posted here. Life has been hectic, and I've let myself get bogged down with other things. There are so many people in need of prayer, though, that I've decided to give this blog another try.
TODAY'S CONCERNS:
Tom: in hospital due to congestive heart failure
Joyce: gall bladder causing serious problems
Marlene: needs second surgery to remove cancer from her back and also getting MRI to determine cause of loss of hearing in one ear
Kevin: suffering from cancer
Micah: preschooler in critical condition after being run over by a lawn mower
Joi: autoimmune disorder affecting her vision, and medicines are not improving the condition
Kevin: broke his leg playing baseball
Victims of the floods and tornados of the last few weeks
All those suffering from the affects of the natural disasters throughout the world
Those suffering from the corruption, greed, and oppression of their countries' leaders

Catching Up
Although I haven't posted regularly on this blog, I've continued praying for those who've made their needs known to me. I hope to be more diligent about posting them here as well.
Last weekend I attended a writing conference in Indianapolis, and am excited to start working toward some of my writing goals with a clearer idea of what editors are looking for. One topic I learned more about is how to write devotionals. I've submitted some to magazines but have not had any of them published. I hope to change that, so I may practice by posting an occasional devotional here--probably on Sundays.
This week, I need to keep the following people in my prayers:
Gizzie is having surgery to remove some lymph nodes on Wednesday.
Billy has prostate cancer, and sees the doctor this week regarding possible surgery.
Ann goes for a colonoscopy, and we're hoping for a good outcome.
Deb's sister-in-law, Marilyn, needs another biopsy.
Denise is worried about the things her daughter is being taught in school, which are making her doubt her faith.
Sandy's daughter has something wrong with her, but doctors haven't been able to determine a diagnosis.
Bob, age 17, has a problem with drugs, and has been asked to leave the place he'd been staying. He is on his way back to his parent's home, and they are concerned about how to handle the situation.
Sally is awaiting possible heart valve replacement.
Brooke, age 9, is awaiting test results to find out why she has severe pain in her hands and feet. She now also has a rash that doctors can't explain. Her parents aren't handling the situation very well.
Sally's sister is coming for a visit, but has an antagonistic attitude that threatens the family bond.
Jenny was scheduled for hip surgery to relieve the pain from a congenital hip defect, but her husband's insurance has lapsed and they don't have the money to reinstate it. She may not be allowed to have the surgery.
Olivia has sleep problems, which may be nuerological in nature. She was born in April.
Julie had heart problems last week, and now has spots showing up on her lungs and liver, as well as fluid around her heart.
Bev is having kneee surgery on Friday.
Jean is worried about driving the 80 miles to O'Hare alone to pick up her son.
Marlene asks for travelling mercies as she and her niece drive to Branson.
Praises:
Joi finally got an appointment at Mayo Clinic to determine why she has the problem with her vision.
Alycia got a part in a college play and it seems to be helping her attitiude toward school.
Brooke and Chris got straight As in school this grading period.
I met some wonderful people this weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed my trip.
Dear God, we thank you for the help you are willing and able to provide to meet these needs. Help each of us to face whatever comes our way with the knowledge that you are there with the solution, guiding us to the right decision when we put our trust in you. Amen

Praise God for My Mom!
Friday was my mom's 90th birthday. She's not in great health, but it didn't stop her from enjoying lunch and birthday cake. Several other family members were there, too, and she loved spending time with all of us. Here's a picture of us taken at her birthday party. I'm the one in the orange sweater.
I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.
(1 Kings 3:12)

This Week's Problems and Praises
This week I'll start with the praises. That sets a more positive tone for the day, and lets me focus more on the problems I want to bring to the Lord's attention at the end of the post.
PRAISES:
Joyce (going to be a great grandma)
Joyce (new hearing aid helping her)
Ted (made it through first week of police academy)
Alycia (opportunities at school)
Anna (out of the hospital and feeling better)
HEALTH RELATED:
Bruce (open heart bypass, with complications)
Dennis (surgery today for brain aneurysm)
Marlene (congestive heart failure and depression)
Linda (biopsy today)
Sharon (complications from heart attack)
Chad (broken arm)
FAMILIES FACING SORROW:
Dan's family
FINANCIAL AND OTHER PROBLEMS:
Jen and Dan (laid off from job)
Linda (son in military, and family stress)
Deb (transmission went out on car, no way to attend church)
All college students (help with grades, mental attitude, and direction for their studies)
Oh, Lord, we know that no problem is too big for you to handle, or too small for you to care about. Help us in dealing with these situations. Resolve them in the way that is best for us and those we love. Give us wisdom to guide out thoughts and actions, and faith to sustain us as we wait for the resolution of these problems. Remind us daily of your love and mercy, and forgive us for our sins. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed." (John 20:29, NIV)
