He Knows What We Need

Sometimes it's hard to find the words to express what it is that is troubling us, or pinpoint our exact need. We may doubt our own judgment and not know what to pray for to make things work out right. Perhaps we're just too overwhelmed by life to think clearly. We can still call on God for help, and because he knows our needs even before we do, we can put our burden in his hands with the assurance that He will do what's best.

And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

This then, is how you should pray:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.

(Matthew 6:7-13, NIV)
